Prof. David Harries - Executive Director - Technology
Qualifications: B.Sc., Dip. Ed., M.Env.Stud., Ph.D.
David is the Technical Director of Energy Made Clean (EMC), an adjunct professor with the University of Western Australia's School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering and an energy consultant.
His previous roles in the energy field over the past 35 years have included establishing and heading up the Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (RISE) at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. Rise was the only NATA accredited testing facility in Australia for solar PV inverters, also undertook testing of a range of other renewable energy equipment, and incorporated the national small wind turbine testing centre.
David also set up the Centre for Research into Sustainable Transport (CREST), was the Executive Director of the Western Australian government's Sustainable Energy Development Office and Assistant Director of the Office of Energy Planning and Conservation in Tasmania. This work included major projects on natural gas infrastructure projects, electricity market reform and restructuring, and the development and implementation of a number of renewable energy and energy efficiency policies and programs.
David chaired the Tasmanian Electricity Code Change Panel and the Tasmanian Electricity Network Reliability and Planning Panel. He has represented governments on several high level energy policy committees and advisory panels, has presented a number of papers at international energy conferences and has published a number of peer reviewed journal papers.
David is actively involved in university postgraduate supervision, teaching and research. He is a lead researcher on an ARC Industry Linkage grant on electric vehicle recharging (University of WA), a research partner on a Second Generation Biofuel grant (Curtin University), and a research partner on an ARC Industry Linkage grant on thermochemical solar energy storage (Curtin University – pending).
David is the Vice President and former President of the Conservation Council of Western Australia.
