Carnarvon Solar Power Station Delivered on Time and $500K Under Budget

The EMC construction team have after an 8 week construction phase successfully delivered the Carnarvon Solar Power Station on time and $500K under budget. The $2.9 million, 290 kW station is the first PPA supported Solar Power Station in Western Australia. Connected to Horizon Powers network the station produces 600,000 kWh annually, offsetting 180,000 litres of diesel representing a saving of 483 tonnes CO2.

The solar power station consists of 7 single axis tracking arrays and 48 seasonally adjusted fixed frame arrays. Engineered to withstand category D cyclonic conditions, these rapidly deployable PV support structures allow a modular and scalable solution for commercial clean energy power generation.

The project is supported by the Australian Government through the renewable remote power generation program. The program is implemented by the State's Office of Energy in Western Australia.

The station was commissioned in December 2011, energy production commenced on the 19th February 2012 and is now operational under a 15 year power purchase agreement with Horizon Power. This is the first of a 50 MW staged rollout of solar power stations by EMC across Western Australia. The construction application for the next project, a 2MW station in Moora Western Australia, is being prepared to be lodged.
