Carnarvon Solar Power Station

The $2.9 million, 290 kW Carnarvon Solar Power Station is the first PPA supported Solar Power Station in Western Australia. Connected to Horizon Powers network the station produces 500,000 kWh annually, offsetting 124,000 litres of diesel representing a saving of 320 tonnes CO2.

The project is supported by the Australian Government through the renewable remote power generation program, which is administered in Western Australia by the Department of Finance - Public Utilities Office.

The station was commissioned in December 2011, energy production commenced on the 19th February 2012 and is now operational under a 15 year power purchase agreement with Horizon Power. This is the first of a 50 MW staged rollout of solar power stations by EMC across Western Australia.

EMC's Solar Power Station was officially opened on Friday 4th of May 2012, marking a significant advance for renewable energy in WA. The facility was “turned on” by Senator Glenn Sterle (pictured) representing Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.
